Things to Do in Phuket at Night That Are Not Patong
A night-by-night guide to the island after dark, from markets and sunsets to beach clubs and cabaret, none of it on Bangla Road.
Phuket after dark is mostly not Patong: night markets that open a different one each evening, a Sunday walking street in a Sino-Portuguese old town, beach clubs where the sunset is the show, a seafood market at the southern tip, and a handful of places worth dressing up for. From a villa in Bang Tao most of it is 10 to 45 minutes away. Here is the island's evening calendar, then the places that work any night.

Sunset first
Every good evening here starts at about 6:15 p.m. facing west. The choices from Bang Tao, nearest first: the sand at Layan or Bang Tao itself, with a drink from a beach restaurant; Catch Beach Club on the Laguna stretch, where Friday and Saturday bring DJs after dark; Nikki Beach on the Layan headland; Café del Mar at Kamala, 20 minutes south, the island's classic sunset bar with a pool and a loud, happy crowd; and, for the occasion, Baba Nest on the roof of Sri Panwa at Cape Panwa, an hour away, a rooftop pool bar with a 360-degree view that needs booking weeks ahead in high season.
Promthep Cape and Rawai
The southern tip of the island is where Phuket goes to watch the sun go down, and it earns the drive (75 minutes from Bang Tao). Arrive by 5:45 for a spot, then drive five minutes to the Rawai seafood market, choose your fish, crab and prawns by weight at the stalls and have a restaurant across the road cook them. It is the island's best-value seafood dinner and the most local evening on this list.
Old Town evenings
Phuket Old Town is 45 minutes from Bang Tao and the best place on the island to eat and walk after dark: Sino-Portuguese shophouses lit up along Thalang, Dibuk and Phang Nga roads, bars in restored mansions, and restaurants from Peranakan family kitchens to serious tasting menus. A show
Carnival Magic in Kamala, 20 minutes away, is the island's big-budget evening: a carnival-themed park with parades, light shows and a huge buffet, open from late afternoon and closed one night a week, so check the day. It is built for families and works best with children between five and twelve. The cabaret shows are in Patong, which is where this guide stops.
Late dinner near the villa
By 9 p.m. most of Bang Tao's restaurants are still serving and by 11 most have closed. For a late plate: the beach clubs on Laguna serve until late on weekends, Boat Avenue's bars keep going past midnight on Fridays, and the Grab app delivers from a long list of restaurants until around 10. Old Town and Patong are the only places on the island with a real late-night scene, and only one of them needs earplugs.
Getting home
Grab works well until about 11 p.m. across the north-west coast and gets thin after that; for Promthep, Old Town or Baba Nest, book a driver for the evening (roughly 1,500 to 2,500 baht for four to five hours) rather than hoping for a ride back. The Bang Tao guide has the local transport notes.
