Phuket Airport to Bang Tao, Layan and Nai Thon: Taxi, Grab, Bus and Private Transfer Prices
Every way from HKT to the north-west coast with current prices: taxi counter, Grab, Bolt, the 100-baht bus and a pre-booked car with your name on a sign.
Phuket International Airport (HKT) is on the north-west coast, which is the best thing about staying in Bang Tao, Layan or Nai Thon: the drive is 15 to 40 minutes, not the hour-plus that Kata or Rawai guests face. A taxi from the official counter costs roughly 500 to 650 baht to Bang Tao, a Grab or Bolt 450 to 800 baht depending on the hour, the public Smart Bus 100 baht per person, and a pre-booked private car with a driver waiting at arrivals 900 to 1,400 baht. Here is how each works, with the prices you will actually see in 2026 and our honest advice on which to take.

Traffic is worst from 4 to 7 p.m. and in heavy rain; a Friday evening in high season can add half an hour to any of these.
Option 1: the official taxi counter
As you leave baggage claim on the ground floor, the Airports of Thailand taxi desk is at the right-hand end. You tell the agent your destination, pay a fixed zone fare, get a printed slip and are walked to a car. Bang Tao, Laguna, Layan and Nai Thon all sit in the same zone, which in 2026 is quoted at around 650 baht for a sedan; older price lists and metered cars run 400 to 500 baht, so expect somewhere between the two. Vans for six people with luggage cost more. It is simple, safe and needs no app or SIM card, and the queue moves quickly except when several wide-body flights land together.
Option 2: Grab or Bolt
Both ride apps work at the airport. Grab is the established one and quotes Bang Tao at 450 to 650 baht by day, rising to 800 in the evening peak or in rain. Bolt is usually 10 to 15 percent cheaper with fewer cars. The pickup point is on the departures level (third floor), signposted from arrivals; you need mobile data, so buy a SIM at the arrivals-hall counters first (AIS and True both sell tourist packages for about 300 to 600 baht). Grab is the best value for a couple with normal luggage. For a family with a pram and four suitcases, book a six-seater in the app or take the counter van.
Option 3: the Smart Bus, 100 baht
The Phuket Smart Bus runs from the airport down the west coast to Rawai for a flat 100 baht, paid in cash, by card tap or by QR code. It stops at Cherng Talay School, Laguna and Lotus Cherng Talay, all within a short taxi hop of most villas, and takes about 30 minutes to Bang Tao. Two caveats: not every departure stops at Laguna, and the bus does not go inside the villa estates, so you still need a tuk-tuk or Grab for the last kilometre. Check the current timetable at phuketsmartbus.com on the day. It is the right choice for a solo traveller with a backpack and the wrong one for anyone landing at midnight with children.
Option 4: a pre-booked private transfer
This is what we arrange for our guests, and what we recommend for arrivals after 10 p.m., for families, and for anyone who does not want to think. Send us your flight number when you book the villa; a driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a sign, tracks the flight if it is late, loads the luggage, and drives straight to the villa where the housekeeper is expecting you. Fixed price agreed in advance, typically 900 to 1,400 baht for a sedan to Bang Tao and a little more for a van, child seats on request. Booking platforms sell the same service for a similar price without the villa hand-off.
Which one should you take?
- Couple, daytime arrival, light luggage: Grab or Bolt.
- Family, late flight, or more than three suitcases: pre-booked private transfer.
- No SIM, no app, just want a car: the official counter.
- Backpacker on a budget, daylight hours: Smart Bus.
- Leaving: book the return the evening before. Grab at the villa gate works well by day; before 6 a.m. a pre-booked car is the reliable option.
Three things that catch people out
- Touts in the arrivals hall. Anyone approaching you offering a taxi is not the official service. Walk to the counter or up to the Grab point.
- Cash. The counter takes cards, Grab is paid in-app, but small taxis, tuk-tuks and the Smart Bus prefer cash. Two ATMs are in the arrivals hall; withdraw a few thousand baht.
- Two terminals. International flights use the newer international terminal, domestic flights the older one next door; they share the same taxi and Grab arrangements, five minutes' walk apart.
