Golf Near Bang Tao and Laguna: Phuket's Courses, Green Fees and How to Book
Five courses within 45 minutes of the villas, what each costs with caddie and cart, and when to play them.

Bang Tao is the best place on Phuket to base a golf holiday: Laguna Golf Phuket is inside the Laguna estate five minutes from the villas, Blue Canyon's two championship courses are 20 minutes north by the airport, and Red Mountain, Loch Palm and Phuket Country Club are 35 to 45 minutes south in Kathu. Green fees in 2026 run from about 2,000 baht at Loch Palm on a weekday to 6,500 at Blue Canyon in high season, plus a mandatory caddie at 400 to 600 baht and a cart at 500 to 700. Here is each course, what it costs and how to plan a week of it.
The courses
| Course | Where | Drive from Bang Tao | Green fee (2026) | Character |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Laguna Golf Phuket | Inside Laguna, Bang Tao | 5–10 min | 3,500–5,000 THB | Par 71 resort course around lagoons and coconut groves; flat, friendly, a former Asian Tour venue |
| Blue Canyon, Canyon course | Near the airport | 20–25 min | 4,500–6,500 THB | Phuket's championship course, two Johnnie Walker Classics, tough par 72 through canyons and rubber plantations |
| Blue Canyon, Lakes course | Near the airport | 20–25 min | 4,500–6,500 THB | The sister course; more water, slightly kinder, same clubhouse |
| Red Mountain | Kathu | 40 min | 3,000–5,500 THB | Dramatic par 71 cut through an old tin mine; elevation changes and the island's best views |
| Loch Palm | Kathu | 40 min | 2,000–3,500 THB | Relaxed, affordable par 71 around a lake; the beginner's and the bargain choice |
| Phuket Country Club | Kathu | 45 min | 2,500–3,500 THB | The island's original course, popular with expat societies |
Weekend fees sit at the top of each range; weekday and twilight rates (after 1 or 2 p.m.) at the bottom. Caddies are compulsory at every course and worth the 400 to 600 baht, plus a tip of 300 to 500 baht for a good round; carts are 500 to 700 baht and optional at Laguna and Loch Palm, effectively required at Red Mountain.
Which to play
- One round, no fuss: Laguna. You can be on the first tee twenty minutes after leaving the villa and back at the pool by two.
- The round you came for: Blue Canyon's Canyon course. Book the earliest tee time; it is the hardest and the most rewarding.
- The scenic one: Red Mountain. Take the cart and the camera.
- Playing with beginners or a tight budget: Loch Palm on a weekday.
- A week: Laguna to warm up, Blue Canyon twice (one course each), Red Mountain, and a rest day between; five rounds without repeating the drive south more than twice.
When to play
The dry season from November to April gives firm fairways and clear mornings; December to February is the busiest and the most expensive, so book tee times a week or two ahead. March and April are hot: tee off by 7 a.m. and be done by lunch. From May to October the courses are green and empty, fees drop, and the pattern is a dry morning round with a shower in the afternoon; the month-by-month weather guide has the detail.
Booking and practicalities
Tee times can be booked directly with each club or through Phuket's golf agents, who bundle green fee, caddie, cart and a car from the villa at a small saving, especially for groups. Clubs and shoes are for hire at every course (1,000 to 1,500 baht a set for decent clubs), so there is no need to fly your bag in for a single round. Dress codes are standard: collared shirt, tailored shorts, soft spikes. Bring cash for the caddie tip and drinks at the halfway house. The concierge arranges the driver; for Blue Canyon and Laguna a Grab is fine, for Kathu a booked car is easier for the return.
After golf
Laguna's clubhouse and the beach clubs on Bang Tao are five minutes from the 18th, and the restaurants around Boat Avenue are ten. For non-golfers, the Bang Tao guide and the day trips fill the mornings. Our villas in Cherng Talay and the Skypark apartment inside Laguna itself put the course closest; see the villas.
